Today’s college football preview begins with the Air Force Falcons (8-5 last season). Air Force has a wealth of potential, but playing in the top-heavy Mountain West will make for an uphill battle.
The offense should be among the conference’s best. Quarterback Tim Jefferson returns to run the option, though he’s a respectable passer, too. Air Force also has the benefit of returning every skill position player who touched the ball last season—yes, all of them. The ground game will be led by Jared Tew (970 yards, 10 touchdowns last season) and Asher Clark (865 yards, seven touchdowns). Unfortunately, the offensive line has no starters returning.
On defense, only two starters in the front seven return. The “D” also lost coordinator Tim DeRuyter. Air Force will have to rely on a very strong secondary, led by cornerbacks Reggie Rembert (first team All-Mountain West) and Anthony Wright (seven picks in 2009).
